The anatomy of a strong bullet point
Every high-quality resume bullet point has three parts:
- Action verb (past tense): Built, Led, Grew, Reduced, Launched, Shipped, Secured, Designed
- What you did: Specific task, project, or initiative, not a generic duty
- Measurable outcome: A number, percentage, dollar amount, time saved, or scale that proves impact

What if I don't have numbers?
Most people underestimate what counts as a measurable result. Ask yourself: how many people did this affect? How long did it take before vs. after? How much did it cost the company? How many times per week/month did this happen? Even rough estimates ("~30 clients," "team of 6") are better than nothing. If there's genuinely no number, add scope or specificity instead: "Led redesign of the 7-step onboarding flow used by all new enterprise accounts."

How many bullet points should each job on my resume have?
Most roles work best with 3-5 bullet points. Your most recent and relevant job can go up to 6. Older roles, especially those 10+ years ago, should have 2-3 at most. Every bullet should describe a specific accomplishment, not a generic duty.
Should I use first person on resume bullet points?
No. Omit "I." Start directly with the action verb. "Led a team of 5 engineers..." not "I led a team of 5 engineers..." This is a standard resume convention across every industry.
What tense should I use for resume bullet points?
Use past tense for previous roles. Use present tense for your current role. Mix creates confusion, so be consistent within each job.
