What is an ATS, and why does your résumé score matter?
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is the software most mid-size and large companies use to collect, parse, and rank résumés before a recruiter reads them. It doesn't automatically reject you, most applications are still reviewed by a person, but a résumé that doesn't match the job's keywords, isn't structured in a way the software can parse, or lists duties instead of measurable results ranks lower and is far less likely to be seen.

How to make your résumé ATS-friendly
- Mirror the language of the job description, use the exact keywords where they truly apply.
- Use standard headings: Experience, Education, Skills.
- Start every bullet point with a strong action verb (Led, Built, Improved, Drove).
- Quantify your impact: "cut load time 40%," "managed a $2M budget," "grew signups 3×."
- Keep formatting simple, no tables, text boxes, or images in the body.
- Include a clear email and phone number at the top.
