What your resume score measures

A resume score reflects how effectively your resume communicates your experience and impact, not just whether you have the right background. A recruiter with 200 resumes to review spends about 7 seconds on each one. Your score tells you whether those 7 seconds are likely to earn a second look.

The four scoring dimensions

• Action verb strength (25 pts): Strong resumes start every bullet with a past-tense action verb (Built, Led, Reduced, Launched). Weak verbs like "Helped," "Assisted," or "Worked on" cost points.
• Quantified impact (25 pts): The percentage of your bullet points that include a number, percentage, dollar amount, or other measurable result. The benchmark is at least 50% of bullets quantified.
• Section completeness (25 pts): Whether your resume includes the core sections recruiters expect: contact info, summary or objective, experience, education, and skills.
• Content depth (25 pts): Whether each role has enough detail. Thin entries with 1-2 generic bullets score lower than roles with 3-5 specific accomplishments.

What score should you aim for?

• 80-100: Strong resume. Focus on tailoring it to specific jobs with the ATS checker.
• 60-79: Solid foundation but specific areas to improve. Usually more quantification or stronger action verbs.
• 40-59: Needs meaningful work. Common issues: too many duty descriptions, missing sections, weak verbs.
• 0-39: Significant gaps. May be formatting issues preventing the text from parsing correctly, or very thin content.

Resume score vs. ATS score: what's the difference?

Your resume score measures the quality of how you describe your experience, regardless of the job. Your ATS score (from the ATS checker) measures how well your resume matches a specific job description's keywords. Both matter. A beautifully written resume that misses the job's keywords won't get through ATS; an ATS-optimized resume with weak bullets won't impress the recruiter who reads it.
